Through God’s grace and healing power,
Jesus Christ has transformed my life to do the will of my Father, for the Holy Spirit to direct me in His righteousness.
My Story
As a young boy, I went to church and revival meetings with my dad. I heard the Word of God preached time and time again, and those messages sank deep into my heart. Even now, I remember a Scripture that stayed with me: Luke 3:8, “Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance.”
Though I didn’t fully understand it then, God was planting His Word deep within me, preparing me for the day He would change my life forever.
As I grew older, I drifted away from the lessons I learned in church and chose my own way.
For years, I ran from God, never realizing that He was still calling me.
But the day finally came when I stopped running; when I ran right into Him.
That’s when I met God, on my way back from a friend’s home in the countryside.
I was traveling down an old, winding dirt road; no lanes, just a narrow path through the countryside. Suddenly, on a curve, another pickup truck was right in front of me. We both swerved to avoid a collision, but his rear bumper caught mine, sending my truck spinning into a pine tree.
The impact threw me through the windshield, and I crashed headfirst into a pine tree. In an instant, the life I knew changed.
I was out cold, but somehow I was rushed to the University of Florida Trauma Center in a coma.
Days passed as I lay in the hospital. When I finally awoke from the coma, I remember the doctor coming into my room and saying, “Richard, your spinal cord has been severed. You will never walk again.
I didn’t know how to react. It felt as though my future had been taken from me, and all I could think about was everything I had lost. Looking back, I realized my life had centered on me, and now everything I depended on had been stripped away.
The hospital made appointments for me for the rest of my life to go to physical therapy.
I thought to myself, “Why should I go to physical therapy?
The doctor already sentenced me to never walk again, to be in bed, my prison, for the rest of my life.
The Lord heard me pray
As I lay on that bed, “which I called prison,” waiting for the hospital van to pick me up to take me to my first physical therapy session, I sensed a great presence in my room, right behind my head. I turned my eyes to my right and knew Jesus was in my room.
“I said to Him, I do not want to be like this; heal me!”
He said to me, ” Believe what you say, and you shall have it.”
When He spoke those words to me, they sank deep into my heart; I knew I was healed.
I told myself that I needed to know God. I realized that the only way to know Him was to learn what His Word says about Him, not simply what others said, but the truth found in the Word of God.
After the visit with Jesus, I asked a friend to get me a cassette recorder, the Old and New Testament Bible tapes, and a tape with all the healing scriptures.
When the driver of the hospital van came into my room with a wheelchair and said, “OK, let’s go to physical therapy,” I replied, “I am healed. I am walking. I don’t need physical therapy.” He left but said, “I’ll be back.”
As I thought about my visit with Jesus and the words He spoke to me, which remained firmly in my mind, I knew that He had healed me the moment I asked Him.
Yet I continued to lie in bed without moving for fourteen months.
As the months passed, friends would come to visit and say, “Richard, you need to go to physical therapy.”
I would tell them, “I am walking,” not “I am going to walk,” but “I am walking.”
From their expressions, I could tell they thought I was crazy.
Every minute of every day, from when I woke up until I fell asleep for fourteen months, I heard the Word of God.
One day, as I heard the Word from the Bible, I heard the exact Words Jesus said to me when I said to Him, Jesus, heal me; I don’t want to be like this, and He said, “Believe what you say, and you shall have it.”
It is in Mark 11:23:
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall
“believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith”.
I shouted, ” Hallelujah” praise God, thank You, God, for healing me! I am healed, I am walking.
Still, the days and months went by, and in the fourteenth month, I saw my toes move; later, my fingers moved; more days went by, and as the days went by, I wrestled my body to slide to the side of the bed, sat up, lifted up, and walked to the other side of the room.
The other side was only 15 feet away, and it took two hours to get there, but I walked; I am healed; I am walking in the name of Jesus Christ.
For what you say when you believe, you shall receive!
God is an I AM GOD. Not going to be God, but an I AM God.
I am ready to serve my God; I know Him better, and I know the Holy Spirit will help me every day of my life.
I got in my old pickup truck, not the one that got wrecked, another one.
I knew that God wanted me to serve Him the rest of my days on earth.
The Holy Spirit directed me to use the only tools I had to serve God: my Bible, my guitar, my pickup truck, and a flatbed farm trailer.
The Holy Spirit told me that Jesus wants me to go about six miles from where I lived, to an old, dirty City Park that was always occupied by drunks, drug dealers, and drug users.
That Saturday morning, I headed to the City Park. I went to the Police station to get a permit. When the Police Chief heard I wanted to go into that old City Park, he told me to sign a waiver saying the City wouldn’t be responsible for what happened to me there. I did.
I set up my trailer in the Park, set up speakers, and, by all the work that I was doing, nobody even cared or knew I was there.
I started playing the guitar and singing the songs I had written and other country gospel songs, and after each song, I would witness that Jesus healed me and sent me there to tell of His love.
As I sang and played the guitar, I noticed a tall black woman and a short black man coming toward me, arm in arm. I thought to myself, ” There is going to be trouble.”
They came closer and closer.
At that time, the Holy Spirit told me to put my guitar down and raise my hands toward the lady as she looked at me. I did, and she fell to the ground. The people there saw what happened; they thought I had hit her and started coming toward me, but a minute or two later, she got to her feet and ran around the whole park shouting, “I can see, I can see.”
She was blind from birth, and everyone there knew it. God gave her a miracle that day, opened her eyes for His glory, and many people came to Jesus in that old, dirty city park.
From that old City Park, which I later saw restored and full of family gatherings, the Holy Spirit led me to a small Christian meeting in a home in Georgia, and God spoke these words to me through Prophet Roy Jacobsen from Ossining, NY, on April 5, 1981, when I was 33 years of age.
“For the way in which the Lord has directed thy life my son is not away understood by the carnal man.
Therefore thou should not be discouraged to even the brethren come against thee, but thou should wait upon me and I shalt put within thou mouth the words that I would have ye to speak and the places where thou shall go and speak my message, but be not discouraged, neither be disconsolate at the looks of those who would come against thee, for I have called thee even as a Joseph, to be a fruitful bough and even, as Joseph knew the strength of the enemy through the brethren, does this not declare his bow was made strong, by the arms of Him who strengthen him, therefore, thou shall not be discouraged.
Yea, for I will put upon thee a Prophetic Spirit and thou thus speak prophetically, thou shalt become against, but I shall be with you saith the Lord that which thou shalt speak, I shall even bring to pass that my name shall be glorified.
After that time, the Holy Spirit led me to buy a gospel tent and preach and heal in the name of Jesus; I saw miracle after miracle everywhere the Holy Spirit led me.
